4-7-8 Breathing Technique

The breath is the bridge between the mind and the body.

Have you ever noticed that when you stop, take a deep breath and proceed with whatever you were doing it can change the outcome?

Breathing exercises are a simple yet powerful way to relieve stress and improve your overall well-being. Earlier this year I was on a business trip to London and was suffering from flu-like symptoms. It was not looking good for a healthy week, so before boarding I grabbed a simple dinner of broiled fish, brown rice and broccoli to avoid eating airplane (processed) food and to get more rest on the flight. Once I settled into my seat, I put on some quiet music and did 30 minutes of deep breathing along with a visualization exercise that focused on healing. I was able to sleep for a few hours and I arrived in London feeling just fine. Whole foods, mindful breathing, and rest are three simple things you can do to support your immune system.

So why not give it a try? The next time you are feeling stressed, or out of sorts sit in a quiet spot, set your intention and start breathing. Ready, set breathe...

"Practicing regular, mindful breathing can be calming and energizing and can even help with stress-related health problems ranging from panic attacks to digestive disorders."
Andrew Weil, M.D.

I've made lots of fruit smoothies, and my daughter likes them, so I thought I'd try a fruit and vegetable combination. It's safe for grownups, too.
